LIers Courtney Murphy, Dorrien Van Dyke lead Stony Brook in rout of Bucknell

Freshmen Courtney Murphy and Dorrien Van Dyke starred in the season opener as Stony Brook beat Bucknell, 18-1, Saturday in women's lacrosse.

Murphy, a Shirley native, scored seven goals and Van Dyke of Northport had five goals. Farmingdale's Alyssa Cardillo added two goals and four assists for the 13th-ranked Seawolves.

Florida 18, High Point 7: Junior Shannon Gilroy, a Northport native, set program records with eight goals and 10 draw controls to lead eighth-ranked Florida (2-1).

Boston College 15, Notre Dame 10: Garden City native Mikaela Rix, a junior, scored a career-high six goals to lead No. 20 Boston College in an ACC upset of 11th-ranked Notre Dame. Rocky Point's Caitlin Gargan scored four goals and Barbara Sullivan (Garden City) had six draw controls for the Fighting Irish.

Georgetown 19, Delaware 11: Corinne Etchison and Hannah Franklin each scored four goals for No. 10 Georgetown. Colleen Lovett (Wantagh) added three goals and Garden City's Caroline Tarzian had two goals and two assists.


Loyola 12, Penn State 11: Nikko Pontrello scored with 3:41 left in overtime to lift 12th-ranked Loyola over No. 9 Penn State. Erik Meyers tied it at 11 for Penn State with 1:03 left in the fourth.

Duke 14, Denver 10:Deemer Class had three goals and Huntington's Myles Jones had two goals and an assist to lead No. 3 Duke over No. 4 Denver.

Maryland 14, UMBC 3: Matt Rambo had three goals and Mike Chanenchuk two goals and three assists for sixth-ranked Maryland.
