LaRusso leads Molloy's rally in ninth inning

Molloy rallied for eight runs in the top of the ninth to beat Southern New Hampshire, 9-7, in Lantana, Fla. in college baseball yesterday. Robert LaRusso put Molloy ahead with a two-run double. Carmine Pellechia also had two RBIs in the inning. Joseph Masone went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI and Juan Borbon, who started the rally with a one-out single, was 2-for-2 with a run.

Briarcliffe 19, Southern Maine CC 1: Lee Ranta allowed four hits and struck out eight in six innings to lead Briarcliffe (5-4, 2-1, USCAA). Ranta, a senior, earned his 20th career victory. Mike Rocco (3-for-5) hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the second, sparking an eight-run outburst.

Hofstra sweeps Fairfield. Ethan Paquette went 3-for-4 with two RBIs to lead Hofstra (2-10) in a 7-4 win in Game 1 of the doubleheader. Matt Prokopowicz went 4-for-5 with a homer, three RBIs and two runs as Hofstra won the second game, 15-3. Jared Rogers allowed one earned run, four hits and struck out four in six innings. Fairfield is 6-6.

Adelphi splits with Bentley. Chris Weidlein went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs for Adelphi (12-5, 1-1 NE-10) in a 7-3 win in Game 2 of a doubleheader. In the second game, Ross Curley and Lamarre Rey each had two RBIs for Bentley in a 6-2 win. Bentley is 8-11, 3-1.

NYIT swept by Siena. Anthony Giansanti went 4-for-5 with two homers and seven RBIs to lead Siena in a 21-14 win in Game 1. Brian Smith went 3-for-5 with a homer and three RBIs for NYIT. Teddy Prymbiski went 2-for-3 with three RBIs for Siena (7-11), which took the second game, 13-4. Smith went 4-for-5 with two runs for NYIT (3-5).

SOFTBALLHofstra splits doubleheader. Olivia Galata pitched a one-hitter with 10 strikeouts to lead Hoftra (11-5) to a 3-0 win over UConn. Brittany Duclos hit a two-out double in the sixth to break up the no-hitter. Michele DePasquale went 2-for-2 with an RBI. Behind Rachel Moeller's four RBIs, Boston University beat Hofstra, 9-4, in the first game.

Dowling splits with LeMoyne. Emily Slack went 4-for-4 with a homer and five RBIs for Dowling (3-9) in an 8-1 win in Game 2 of the doubleheader. Jessie Stavola threw a two-hitter with nine strikeouts. LeMoyne took the first game, 4-1, behind three RBIs from Barbara Shea.

Stony Brook 4, Holy Cross 3: Brijette Martin drove in Vicki Kavitsky with a walkoff double with ninth for Stony Brook (8-7). Alyssa Struzenberg allowed an unearned run and struck out seven in 4 2/3 innings of relief to earn her school-record 59th win. She surpassed Angela Andrews (2006).

NYIT splits with Southern New Hampshire. Lisa Boystak went 3-for-4 with two runs for NYIT in a 4-1 win in Game 1 of a doubleheader. Jamie Brooker allowed a hit in six innings. Southern New Hampshire (1-1) won the second game, 3-2. Brooklynn Fields hit a homer and scored two runs for NYIT (3-6).

Suffolk CC sweeps Nassau CC. Christina Seppi pitched a two-hitter with eight strikeouts as Suffolk CC-Selden won Game 1 of the doubleheader, 8-0. Cherie Wangenstein went 3-for-4 with two walks and three RBIs. Brittany Sherwood allowed four hits and two runs in five innings for Suffolk CC (6-1, 2-0 Region XV) in a 10-2 win in Game 2. Seppe had two RBIs. Nassau CC is 1-2.
