For the third year in a row, Stony Brook senior Leonardo Fernandes has been named the America East Midfielder of the Year.
He's the first player to be honored three straight times since the award's inception in 2004.
Fernandes, who was also named to the All-America East first team, leads Stony Brook's men's soccer team in goals (eight), assists (six) and points (22). He ranks second in the conference in points, fourth in goals and is tied for third in assists as Stony Brook heads into the quarterfinal of the America East Championship, scheduled for noon Saturday at LaValle Stadium against No. 6 Binghamton.
Six other Seawolves join Fernandes with conference honors. Seniors Raphael Abreu, Berain Gobeil Cruz and Kyle Schlesinger, and junior Marius Krathe were named to the All-America East second team. Freshmen Alejandro Fritz and Martin Giordano were named to the All-Rookie squad.
