Molloy's Fontana: No-hitter, 19 Ks

Molloy's Fontana hurls no-no

Sophomore Chuck Fontana pitched a no-hitter with four walks and a career-high 19 strikeouts for Molloy (11-14, 4-2) in a 4-0 baseball win over Queens in the ECC, yesterday.Carmine Pellachia went 3-for-4 with an RBI in the win. Queens is 8-15, 3-8.

Adelphi 6, Concordia 2: Richard McCarren went 2-for-3 with two runs for Adelphi (15-6). Jonathan Gonzalez went five innings and allowed two earned runs and four hits with four strikeouts and four walks. Concordia is 15-9.


St. Joseph's sweeps. Freshman Gina Moscatelli pitched her first no-hitter with three walks and eight strikeouts to lead St. Joseph's (L.I.) to a 22-0 win over City Tech in the first game of a doubleheader. She also went 5-for-5 with five runs and three RBIs. In the second game, Lauren Guzzardi allowed a run and six hits and struck out three as St. Joseph's (7-6) romped, 25-1. It was the junior's first career win. She was also 2-for-3 with three RBIs. City Tech is 0-8.


Nassau CC 12, Navy Prep 9: Kyle Smith had three goals and two assists for Nassau CC (6-1) in non-conference. Owen Campbell broke a 9-all tie by scoring twice in the last five minutes for Nassau CC. Joe Herman and James Kiernan each had two goals. Navy Prep is 5-2.

Suffolk CC-Brentwood 18, Catonsville (Md.) 10: Ryan Mauer had four goals and one assist, and Ralph Pepe added three goals and two assists for Suffolk CC-Brentwood (5-0) in an inter-regional game. Mike Theis made 10 saves in the win. Catonsville is 4-5.


C.W. Post 19, New Haven 7: Ashley Olen had four goals and one assist for No. 3 C.W. Post (7-0) in non-conference. Bri Jackolski added three goals and three assists in the win. No. 10 New Haven is 2-4.
