The Nassau Community College wrestling team won the Northeast District I championship on Saturday and qualified for the national championship tournament later this month.
Nassau won eight of 10 weight classes, led by by Kyle Mock at 133 pounds, who pinned his opponent, CJ Walz from Niagara, in 1 minute, 11 seconds.
According to Coach Paul Schmidt, once Mock reached the proper weight after battling the flu, he knew Mock would do well in the division. Other leaders include John Arceri at 141 pounds and Zachary Knighton-Ward at 197 pounds. All 10 Lions qualified for the NJCAA national tournament, Feb. 23-24 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. — Desiree Mathurin
