How Long Island natives fared at the NCAA Division I wrestling championships

Results for local wrestlers at the NCAA Division I wrestling tournament in Cleveland:

Mike D’Angelo, Princeton (Commack), 147, Jr.

The 16th seed went 0-2 overall.

Mike Hughes, Hofstra (Smithtown West), 285, Sr.

Finished in sixth place and was named All-American after going 4-2 in the consolation bracket.

Nick Piccininni, Oklahoma State (Ward Melville), 125, So.

Reached the quarterfinals in the championship bracket before losing two consecutive matches.

Shakur Rasheed, Penn State (Longwood), 197, Jr.

Rasheed finished seventh and also was All-American after beating Willie Miklus of Missouri, 11-3 in the consolation bracket. His run in the main bracket ended wtih a 5-4 loss to eventual finalist Michael Macchiavello of NC State in the quarterfinals.

Steven Schneider, Binghamton (MacArthur), 184, Sr.

Went 1-2 in the tournament, losing his final match, 5-3, to Christian LaFragola of Brown.
