Newsday's preview of Stony Brook

Greg Logan and Steve Marcus combined to write about Stony Brook as the 2011 season approaches. Worth noting: Stony Brook begins the season Saturday and UTEP and then travels to Buffalo for a Sept. 10 game.

-- As teammates for one season at Hofstra, Brock Jackolski and Miguel Maysonet barely knew each other even though they were members of the same backfield. But when Hofstra closed its football program, Jackolski and Maysonet burst through the doors that opened at Stony Brook like the dynamic pair of running backs they are. Logan has the story of Jackolski and Maysonet here.

-- It is difficult to imagine that 6-8, 350-pound offensive tackle Michael Bamiro once was the littlest sibling in the trio of Bamiro brothers to have attended Stony Brook University. Bamiro is one huge reason why Stony Brook once again is primed to take a shot at its first NCAA Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) bid. Bamiro, a starter last year as a redshirt freshman, towers over a talented group. He wants to follow in the footsteps of his brothers and get a shot at playing professionally. Marcus has the story here.
