No. 5 LSU has had problems with Mississippi in the past. Saturday was no exception.
The Tigers trailed at three different points in the second half, but was able to finally put away the Rebels on a Stevan Ridley 7-yard touchdown run and 2-point conversion run by Jordan Jefferson with 44 seconds remaining in the game.
The win for LSU, now 10-1, was big for a few reasons. LSU will not play in the SEC title game. But the Tigers still have a slim chance of making it to the BCS title game, if enough teams ahead of them lose. At the very least, a one-loss LSU team will be in the running for a BCS at-large bid, especially if Auburn plays for the national title.
A loss against Mississippi would have severely damaged LSU's BCS bowl dreams.
