No. 9 Oklahoma defeated No. 13 Nebraska 23-20 Saturday night at Dallas Cowboy Stadium in Arlington to win the Big 12 and clinch a trip to the Fiesta Bowl on Jan . 1.
It was the final time the longtime rivals will meet as members of the Big 12. Nebraska will head to the Big Ten beginning next season. Oklahoma and Nebraska were bitter rivals in the old Big Eight and carried that rivalry over to the Big 12.
The Sooners (11-2) will play either Big East champion Connecticut or Stanford, which is expected to earn a BCS at-large bid, in the Fiesta.
Nebraska (10-3) built a 17-0 early in the second quarter before Oklahoma rallied to close the gap to 17-17 with 1:27 remaining in the first half. Nebraska got a late field goal to take a 20-17 halftime lead.
Oklahoma needed just two Jimmy Stevens field goals in the second half.
Oklahoma's defense was solid in the second half, unleashing a ferious pass rush on Nebraska quarterback Taylor Martinez. Martinez came into the game with an ankle injury suffered a few weeks back. Martinez threw for just 143 yards and an interception. He was a non-factor running the ball.
Oklahoma quarterback Landry Jones threw for 341 yards and a touchdown.
Nebraska will end up in either the Alamo, Holiday or Insight Bowls.
