The board of trustees at Fordham will meet this week to discuss coaching candidates for the men's basketball team. Hofstra coach Tom Pecora is thought to be at the top of the list. Interim coach Jared Grasso, Robert Morris coach Mike Rice and Cornell's Steve Donahue also are under consideration.
Pecora also is seen as a candidate for the openings at Seton Hall and St. John's. He refused to discuss his intentions beyond saying he expects to receive calls about various openings.
Fordham could request permission to speak with Pecora shortly, a person familiar with the situation said. Hofstra's administration has remained mum on the Pecora situation, refusing to discuss personnel matters.
On the St. John's front, athletic director Chris Monasch said he does not expect candidates to appear on campus for formal interviews. "That is why committees don't work,'' he said. "You don't send in your application and show up. It's guys using their representatives. What I tell people is if [a candidate] is interested, he should probably have his representative call me. A lot of things can be answered by a third party. I'm not going to go through an interview process, expose someone [to the media] and at the end of the day we're not on the same page.''
