Although preseason all-conference teams and polls have no bearing on what happens during the season, they do show what kind of respect a program has within its league.
Stony Brook, winners of three of the last four regular season America East conference titles, has earned its share of respect as the program placed two players on the AE preseason All-Conference team.
Senior guard Dave Coley and sophomore center Jameel Warney were named to the squad, the league announced.
Coley (11.1 ppg, 4.2 rpg) was a third-team All-Conference selection last season, while Warney (12.4 ppg, 1.5 blocks, 7.2 rpg) was a Mid-Major Freshman All-American in 2012-13.
Coley and Warney join Tommy Brenton, Bryan Dougher, Muhammad El-Amin and Mitchell Beauford as the only Seawolves ever to receive preseason All-Conference honors.
Binghamton’s Jordan Reed, Mark Nwakamma of Hartford and Vermont’s Brian Voelkel round out the rest of the team.
Stony Brook opens its season on Nov. 8 at home against Marist.
