St. John's women win at Madison Square Garden

Centhya Hart's free throws with 14 seconds left gave St. John's a four-point lead en route to a 57-55 win over South Florida at Madison Square Garden yesterday in a Big East women's basketball game. St. John's improved to 6-1 all-time at the Garden.

Da'Shena Stevens had 15 points and eight rebounds to lead the Storm (16-3, 4-2). Hart added 12 points. KeNeisha Saunders had 16 points for USF (11-8, 2-4) and Sequoyah Griffin's layup with seven seconds left created the final margin.

Queens 68, Mercy 66: Janine Maser's free throws at 1:06 put Queens up, 67-66, and Christine Harnischfeger (27 points) added a free throw with four seconds left. Jennifer Robbins had 15 points and nine rebounds for Queens (4-13, 4-7 ECC). Delmara Reece had 15 points and 12 rebounds for Mercy (4-13, 3-8).

C.W. Post 75, NYIT 50: Jasmine Moore had 14 points and 12 rebounds as C.W. Post (14-3, 9-2 ECC) won its 11th straight. Senior Madison Robertson had 12 points, including her 1,000th for NYIT (2-15, 2-9).

SUNY-Old Westbury 74, Bard 31: Krystina Agard had 17 points, seven assists and eight steals to lead Old Westbury (10-7 Skyline).

MEN'S BASKETBALL

C.W. Post 88, NYIT 83: Jonathan Kohler had 22 points and six rebounds, and Billy Butler had 21 points and six assists as Post (13-4, 9-2 ECC) won its 10th straight. The Pioneers outscored NYIT, 52-42, in the second half. Anthony Clark had 16 points for NYIT (7-10, 4-6).

Farmingdale State 76, Sage 58: Shahee Martin scored 24 points to lead Farmingdale (8-8, 8-3 Skyline). Freshman Ricco Oliver added 18 points and Terrence Howard had 17 rebounds. Sage is 4-12, 3-9.

Nassau CC 71, Orange CC 63:Michael Braithwaite had 16 points and 11 rebounds to lead Nassau CC (16-3). Lawrence Williams added 14 points and six rebounds. Orange is 8-8.

USMMA 80, Susquehanna 59: Ryan Samuel's 15 points led USMMA (14-3, 6-1 Landmark). Matt Hueber added 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Dowling 80, St. Thomas Aquinas 58: David Seagers had 32 points, seven rebounds and eight steals for Dowling (6-13, 4-7 ECC).
