Academic issues have caused St. John's to lose the second of three scholarship players in coach Steve Lavin's 2014 recruiting class. A school source confirmed that 7-foot Adonis De La Rosa, a former Christ the King standout, will not be eligible for at least the first semester and quite possibly the full season.

The NCAA eligibility center, which initially declared De La Rosa eligible, Wednesday notified St. John's of a change in his status.

There is no timetable for how long it will take to resolve his eligibility issues. De La Rosa's case is unrelated to that of 6-8 junior-college transfer Keith Thomas, whose transcript from Westchester CC was determined to be inaccurate in a St. John's investigation initiated after the school was alerted to problems by an outside source.

The losses leave 6-9 Amar Alibegovic as the only scholarship freshman and severely undermine the Red Storm's frontcourt depth.
