Staten Island’s Brian Bernardi is the latest to join Hofstra men's basketball coach Joe Mihalich’s revamped squad, the school announced. The sophomore, who averaged 11.2 minutes and 3.5 points per game as a guard for Southern Methodist University, will have to sit out the 2013-2014 season, per NCAA regulations. He will be eligible to play for three more seasons.
A graduate of Brooklyn’s Xaverian High School and an All-Catholic High School Athletic Association selection, Bernardi shot nearly 42 percent from three-point range as he sank 23 three-pointers this season. He also went 19-for-26 from the free-throw line. Bernardi joins seven other newcomers this year, including two other transfers.
