Stony Brook hangs on at South Carolina to improve to 2-0

Akwasi Yeboah leads Seawolves with 24 points; Jeff Otchere's block seals it.

Akwasi Yeboah scored 24 points and had 11 rebounds to lead the Stony Brook men's basketball team to an 83-81 stunner over South Carolina on Friday night in Columbia.

The Seawolves (2-0) led for most of the second half and held on when Jeff Otchere blocked a potential game-winning three-pointer from Justin Minaya with two seconds left.

Elijah Olaniyi added 16 points and nine rebounds, and Jaron Cornish had eight points and eight assists for Stony Brook.

It’s been a good start to the season for the Seawolves, who trailed 22-0 against George Washington on Tuesday, tied the game for the first time with a second left and won in overtime.

South Carolina is 1-1.
