Fresh Meadow's Rose wins third MGA Senior Amateur

Steve Rose of Fresh Meadow Country Club added to his own substantial resume Tuesday when he shot par 72 in the cold wind at North Shore Country Club to win the 83rd Metropolitan Golf Association Senior Amateur. He overcame a four-shot deficit in the final round to win the tournament for the third time.

Rose won the Senior Amateur in 2003 and 2005 and has won many other prestigious tournaments such as the 1999 Long Island Amateur and 2005 Senior Masters Division of the Richardson Memorial.

"I was very happy to live my life winning it twice," he said. "But this is great since it's such a tough tournament to win."

This was the first big tournament at the 97-year-old club since its revival under new owner Donald Zucker.
