Fantasy players were anticipating running back DeAngelo Williams leaving the Panthers via free agency. Unfortunately, it won't happen. Williams will sign with the Panthers denting the fantasy value of Jonathan Stewart and Mike Goodson.
Williams is a solid RB2, but will lose a good amount of touches to Stewart, who becomes a low-end RB2/high-end RB3. Neither player is adept at catching passes. Stewart certainly has the talent to be the main back for a team and it won't happen. Had Williams departed, Stewart had a shot to be a low-end RB1. This is the first off season in which Stewart is healthy. Instead, it's the same situation as the past few seasons.
Goodson takes a big hit. I really liked him as a nice value late in PPR drafts. He may still see some third-down work since he's the best of the trio catching passes out of the backfield, but Williams' return hurts Goodson.
It remains to be seen who the Broncos add at running back. Williams was rumored to go there and that would have hurt Knowshon Moreno, who isn't an electric running back, but it doesn't appear that there is a running back on the market like Williams that would damage Moreno's value. If he gets the majority of the touches, Moreno will be a RB2 and he's good in a PPR league.
