The prospects are beginning to get the call and the Dodgers called up 23-year-old shortstop Dee Gordon, the son of former major leaguer Tom Gordon. Manager Don Mattingly has already said Gordon will be the regular shortstop with Rafael Furcal on the disabled list.
The one thing that stands out about Gordon is his speed. He was used as a pinch runner last night in the ninth inning against the Phillies and went first to third in the blink of an eye. He was batting .315 with a .361 on-base percentage and a .370 slugging percentage, so there is no power here.
Gordon had 22 stolen bases in 25 attempts. Over his last 10 games he's hit .341 while going 6-for-6 on the base paths. Getting on base could be an issue also. He had just 14 walks in 220 plate appearances.
The shortstop and middle infield position is always difficult to fill. In NL-only leagues, he's an add. He should also be considered in deeper mixed leagues.
