Before the season began, I openly stated that Jonathon Niese would be the best Mets fantasy pitcher. Some may be surprised by how well Niese is pitching, but I am not. He's probably sitting on the waiver wire in many leagues.
Niese is only 6-5, but keep in mind that you shouldn't judge a pitcher on wins and losses. Niese has a good K/9 of 7.03 and has trimmed his BB/9 to 3.06. He induces groundballs at a 51 percent rate and he pitchers in a good home ballpark. Niese has a 3.46 ERA and a 1.31 WHIP.
Niese has allowed two earned runs or less in six consecutive starts with a 37/11 K/BB ratio during that span. Niese has allowed two earned runs or less in 10 of his 14 starts. I don't think a lot of fantasy owners realize how consistent Niese has been.
