The Red Sox placed outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury and Mike Cameron on the 15-day disabled list today. Ellsbury has missed seven consecutive games with bruised ribs. The move was made retroactive to April 12. Ellsbury was injured on April 11 when he slid for a pop-up and was kneed by Adrian Beltre. Outfielder Darnell McDonald was recalled to take his roster spot. It sounds like Ellsbury will be able to return when eligible early next week.
Cameron is sidelined with an abdominal tear and he is expected to miss more than 15 days. He passed kidney stones on Friday. Outfielder Josh Reddick was recalled to take Cameron's spot. The biggest beneficary will be Jeremy Hermida, who will get more playing time. Hermida is batting just .219, but he has two home runs and three doubles. He had a .721 OPS at home while playing with Florida and an .821 road OPS. He should be picked up in all leagues.
