FDR Edges Brooklyn Tech in Tourney

Errol Porteaus had 15 points, including a pair of free

throws with 40 seconds remaining, to seal a 53-50 win for FDR over Brooklyn

Tech in the nightcap of the first Bob Kronisch Memorial Classic at FDR on


Rilwan Salawu had 11 points, 14 assists and 10 rebounds for Cougars and

Sharone Pendarvis chipped in 26 points and seven steals for FDR (3-5). Porteaus

also had 30 rebounds, according to FDR coach Brendan Sullivan.

The game honored the memory of former FDR teacher and PSAL official Bob

Kronisch, who passed away last season of a heart attack. Kronisch was a

physical education teacher and a referee in boys basketball and girls

volleyball for 17 years.

Robeson 78, Midwood 69: Malcolm Grant had 15 points and Maurice Folk had 19

points for Robeson (8-1 Brooklyn A-III). Danny Cox led Midwood with 37 points.

Berkeley Carroll 40, Wheeler School (R.I.) 39: Yahote Kokayi hit a pair of

free throws with eight seconds left, and Wheeler School missed a shot from

halfcourt at the buzzer. Kokayi and Ben Leit (seven rebounds) each had 11

points for Berkeley Carroll (3-3).

Brooklyn Friends 45, Friends Seminary 44: Arnav Shah hit a baseline jumper

at the buzzer off an assist from Will Watkins to give Brooklyn Friends (2-2,

2-0 ACIS) the win. Shah and Watkins each finished with 12 points.

Bayside 62, Kennedy 55: Ryan Leak had 15 points and 12 rebounds and Tyrone

Dulin added 14 points for Bayside (11-1).

Townsend Harris 62, Aviation 53: Louis Elrose had 29 points and Jesse

Franco had 14 points for Townsend Harris (10-1).

Holy Cross 76, Long Island Lutheran 37: Joseph Connor scored 14 of his

team-high 20 points during a 28-7 first quarter to lead Holy Cross in a

first-round game of the Holy Trinity (L.I.) Holiday Classic. Gordon McKenzie

added 13 points for the Knights (3-0), who face the winner of Holy Trinity and

Great Neck South in the championship game at 7:45 p.m. Saturday night at Holy


St. John's Prep 86, Cardinal Hayes 50: Chris Williams had 20 points,

including six three-pointers, and five assists, and Bryant Dunston had 10

points and seven rebounds for St. John's Prep (3-1, 1-0 CHSAA).

Kew Forest 52, Lexington 34: Samir Mahadin scored 14 points and Daniel

Stransky 10 for Kew Forest (1-1).

Garden 56, Browning 39: Mohamad Mohamad had 16 points and seven rebounds

for Garden School, and Naruto Arakawa had 10 points and seven steals.

Lab Museum 84, Central Park East 77: Wesley Santiago had 33 points, 22

rebounds and 10 assists and Evan Lane 16 points and 15 rebounds for Lab Museum

in two overtimes. Santiago had two key three-pointers in the first overtime,

and Jesse Kimmel (19 points, 15 assists) scored off a steal and a breakaway to

give Lab (5-7, 3-2 Manhattan B-II) a six-point lead with 45 seconds left.

Health Professions 76, Graphic Arts 65: Gregory Willis had 28 points, 25

rebounds and 10 blocks, and Abdul Siddiquee 11 points, 12 rebounds and 8

assists for Health Professions (9-1, 6-0 Manhattan B-II).

Leadership 51, LaGuardia 43: Kareem Donaldson had 17 points and Albert Cruz

16 for Leadership (6-0 Manhattan B-III).

Manhattan Center 94, Justice Academy 61: Felix Benito scored a career-high

34 points, and Joe Edwards had 18 points for Manhattan Center (6-2, 3-2

Manhattan A).

Beacon 62, Hunter 60: Rod Raines had 17 points and 10 assists, Leo Ceballos

16 points, and Richie Passer 15 points and five assists for Beacon (4-4, 1-3

Manhattan A-II).

Birch Wathen Lenox 79, Columbia Prep 65: Robert Dominiak scored 28 points,

and Marc Dupiton had 25 points and 10 assists as BWL (5-2) won the Columbia

Tip-Off Tournament. Ben Ach led Columbia Prep with 34 points.

Morris 102, Jane Addams 56: Owen Brow had 32 points and 12 rebounds, and

Jonathan Rosado 21 points and eight assists for Morris (8-0, 4-0 Bronx B).

Bronx Leadership 69, F.L. Hamer 62: Vernon Johnson had a career-high 31

points and 10 rebounds, and Dem'be Wilson 15 points and five rebounds for Bronx

Leadership (7-4, 3-1 Bronx B).

Monroe 62, Wadleigh 61: Darian David (16 points) hit two free throws with 6

seconds left to lift Monroe. Riccardo Buckridge led the Eagles (8-1) with 19

points. Dom Jones scored 19 for Wadleigh.

Walton 62, Stevenson 57: Teddy Ellis had 23 points and 10 rebounds, Henry

Fernandez had 13 points and Bradshaw Bradley 10 points and 12 rebounds in an

overtime win for Walton (6-3). Stevenson hit a three-pointer just before the

end of regulation to force the extra session.

Horace Mann 41, R.C. Ketchum (Poughkeepsie) 29: Stephen Balik scored 12

points and Roger Ramirez added nine for Horace Mann (3-0) in the Tappan Zee

Tip-Off Tournament. Mann will play for the championship against the winner of

Tappan Zee and Albertus Magnus at 8 p.m. Saturday.


MTA-Yeshiva 54, Dalton 21: Moshe Glas (125 pounds), Jesse Moskowitz (130

pounds), and Ben Epstein (215) had pins for Yeshiva (3-0, 2-0 PSAA).


John Adams 58, Jamaica 52: April Simpson had 14 points, and Shamika Bell

eight points and 10 rebounds for John Adams (3-5, 2-4 Queens A).

Richmond Hill 51, Far Rockaway 38: Helen Marte had 20 points and Nia

Harrison 11 for Richmond Hill (8-2, 6-1 Queens B-I).
