Adrian Peterson returned from a torn ACL and rushed for 84 yards and two touchdowns in the Vikings’ season-opening win over the Jaguars, saying that his left knee was at about 95 percent strength.

Peterson is feeling so good, in fact, that he plans on playing long enough to break Emmitt Smith’s all-time NFL rushing record of 18,355. That’s quite a goal, considering Peterson has rushed for 6,836 yards so far, just over a third of the way toward Smith’s record. Peterson broke Robert Smith’s franchise record of 6,818 yards on Sunday.

“It's intriguing. You set goals for yourself that you want to accomplish,” Peterson said. “What greater accomplishment to get than the all-time leading rusher in the NFL? I think that's something that, God willing, if I stay healthy, it will come with time.”

To reach Smith’s record, Peterson would have to average 1,440 yards in each of the next eight seasons.
