As far as former NFL quarterback Boomer Esiason is concerned, the Broncos ought to start thinking about life after Tim Tebow. The sooner the better, in fact.
On his morning show on 660 WFAN in New York, Esiason told co-host Craig Carton that John Fox ought to just be done with Tebow, instead of sticking with him for another week. After beating the Dolphins in a dramatic comeback last week, Tebow's Broncos were routed by the Lions at home.
"“This is a bad move for two reasons,” Esiason said of keeping Tebow as the starter, per a transcript provided by WFAN. "One is, I don’t believe that Tim Tebow knows what he’s doing on the football field. No. 2, those hits that are coming his way are coming with authority. Meaning that players are out to get him. The mocking by the Detroit Lions and all the talk after the game and all that other stuff leads me to believe that people are after him."
Esiason added that, "in all the years that I’ve covered and played in professional football, I have never seen a team like the Detroit Lions do what they did last week. "It just means that there’s no respect for Tim Tebow as the quarterback. And they want to make sure that when they play him, they want to show that to the world that Tim Tebow cannot play in this league at this position."
According to Esiason, Fox should have traded Tebow - or even released him - before the season started. Fox inherited Tebow from former coach Josh McDaniels, who drafted Tebow in the first round last year.
Said Esiason: “They should have cut him. Let him be somebody else’s problem.”
