Browns zero in on Shurmur

The Browns appear to be getting closer to a deal with Rams offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur to become the next head coach.

Shurmur has attracted the most attention in the Browns' coach search, and his work with Rams rookie quarterback Sam Bradford has drawn the attention of team president Mike Holmgren and general manager Tom Heckert.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, a deal to announce Shurmur's hiring could be announced by Friday. Giants defensive coordinator Perry Fewell is one of several coaches, including former Giants defensive coordinator and Panthers head coach John Fox, to have been interviewed by the Browns.

Shurmur is the nephew of the late Fritz Shurmur, who was Holmgren's defensive coordinator with the Packers when Green Bay won the Super Bowl after the 1996 season.
