Cardinals fire defensive coordinator Pendergast

TEMPE, Ariz. - The Arizona Cardinals have fired defensivecoordinator Clancy Pendergast less than a week after the teamplayed Pittsburgh in the Super Bowl.

Coach Ken Whisenhunt said in a statement released Saturday thatthe decision "comes down to what's best for the team and whatgives us the best chance to win."

Pendergast's departure leaves the team without bothcoordinators. Offensive coordinator Todd Haley was named head coachof the Kansas City Chiefs on Friday.

Pendergast was hired by Dennis Green in 2004 and was retainedwhen Whisenhunt took over in 2007.
