It has been a busy day for the Chiefs, who made two major moves today by re-signing wide receiver Dwayne Bowe to a five-year contract and placing the franchise tag on left tackle Branden Albert.
Bowe has been a key member of an offense that needs all the help it can get, and keeping him was a major priority for new head coach Andy Reid and GM John Dorsey. And by tagging Albert, they keep their franchise left tackle for at least the 2013 season.
The Chiefs might still use the No. 1 overall pick on a tackle - Luke Joeckel of Texas A & M and Eric Fisher of Central Michigan are possibilities - but keeping Albert means they'll have continuity at a key position.
The Chiefs have already solidified the offense by finalizing a trade with the 49ers for quarterback Alex Smith. That deal won't become official until the trading period opens next Tuesday.
