Eli takes Toomer's comments in stride

Eli Manning saved some funny for after his "Saturday Night Live" appearance.

Asked about recent comments by former Giants receiver Amani Toomer in which he said that Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is "probably the best quarterback in the NFC East," Manning said that he was able to laugh it off. In an interview on WFAN Monday, Manning said he ran into Toomer earlier this month and told the Giants' all-time leading receiver: "I thought Ike Hilliard and those [guys] were probably better Giants receivers than you were. Willie Ponder was probably a better Giants receiver than you were."

While Hilliard had a strong career for the Giants and Bucs, Ponder appeared in just 26 games for the Giants, catching eight passes.

"You have to laugh about it instead of getting upset," Manning said. "There's no point. Amani's been a good pal of mine and still is, so you just have to laugh about it." Lions cut DB Berry

The Detroit Lions terminated defensive back Aaron Berry's contract after his second arrest of the summer.

Berry was arrested twice this offseason in Pennsylvania. Cpl. Kyle Gautsch of the Harrisburg Police Department said he was taken into custody early Saturday morning on three charges of simple assault. Berry was also arrested on June 23 on suspicion of DUI, failure to stop and render aid from an accident and other counts.

No Ochocinco

Chad Ochocinco is officially no more. The Miami Dolphins wide receiver has changed his name back to the original Chad Johnson. Johnson legally changed his name yesterday in an appearance at the Broward County Courthouse.

Bryant's mom won't pursue case

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant's mother has told authorities that she doesn't want to pursue a case against her son after an argument allegedly turned violent.

A Dallas County district attorney's spokeswoman says the case DeSoto police filed against Bryant includes an affidavit of non-prosecution from the complainant. The affidavit means the complainant doesn't want to proceed.
