Less than 24 hours after the Jets acquired Steelers receiver Santonio Holmes in exchange for a fifth-round pick in next week's draft, the NFL announced today that Holmes would miss the first four games of the 2010 season because of violating the league's substance abuse policy.
While not detailing the reasons behind the suspension, the discipline likely results from last month's incident in which Holmes (pictured, left) was accused of throwing a drink, including the glass, at a woman in an Orlando bar. Holmes is currently being sued in civil court over the incident.
Holmes was arrested in October, 2008 by Pittsburgh police, on suspicion of marijuana possession. He was suspended one game by the Steelers.
