August 1, the date that seemed so far away for most of the spring and summer, is finally here and the Giants open their training camp in albany under beatutiful blue skies and temperatures in the low 60s.

Ahhh.

They'll be on the field at 10 this morning for a conditioning test and then out again for their first practice at 3:10 p.m.

I've been told that all 80 players on the roster have checked in (although I'll do my own count once we get out there). That includes first-round pick Jason Pierre-Paul and second-rounder Linval Joseph, both of whom signed their deals last night.

There are 78 players who are ready to practice and two -- Kenny Phillips and Kevin Boothe -- who are on the Physically Unable to Perform list. Below them on the roster is Chad Jones (Reserve/Non-Football Injury) and Domenik Hixon (Reserve/Injured).

As was reported earlier this week, the Giants are expecting Kenny Phillips to come off the PUP list sometime in th enext week. My guess is Boothe stays there through the start of the season.

We get to talk to a few of the players and the position coaches after the conditioning test, so I'll be back then to tell you what they said. Well, not right away. I might have to take a bathroom break first. You know how those conditioning tests can be.

By the way, we'll be Tweeting the snot out of this training camp, so don't forget to follow us at twitter.com/newsdaygiants.
