Tom Coughlin said he hopes that Travis Beckum’s 67-yard touchdown catch can springboard him into a larger role on the offense. Naturally, Beckum hopes for the same.
“I was only as good as that one opportunity and I had that one and I took advantage of it,” he said today. “Hopefully I can continue to do it for the rest of the season.”
Beckum said it’s been difficult waiting for that one shot.
“It’s tough,” he said. “It’s a part of the game,. You just try to stay positive about a negative situation. Like I said, as soon as you get the opportunity just try to capitalize on it.”
He certainly did that, juking thrice before reaching the end zone.
“They kept having good angles and so I would try to make them overrun it and then I’d cut back,” Beckum said. “And then I did it again. And did it again. I just tried to see what they were doing and make my cuts off of that.”
Beckum said he needed that play, not only to prove to himself what he is capable of but to others.
“I think that it’s an ego-booster for me, I’m going to get my confidence back and the confidence from the guys and the coaches as well,” he said. “I think that it’s one thing to say what you can do and another to actually show what you can do.”
