Ben Patrick is pulling a Brett Favre. He retires and by the following day he's already thinking about a comeback.
To be serious, Patrick told his hometown paper, the Savannah Morning News, that he left the team to deal with "some personal issues and some family issues." He didn't elaborate, but he said that he hopes to return to the NFL "sooner rather than later."
The Giants will still own his rights as they put him on the reserve/retired list. Whether Patrick is able to return this preseason or at some point during the season is unclear. But for now, the Giants are without the player they hoped would be a backup tight end to Kevin Boss but who was expected to make a push for a starting job when Boss signed with Oakland.
So it doesn't sound like Patrick actually retired so much as called a time out.
