Chris Canty isn’t worried about dealing with all the buildup and hype leading up to Super Bowl XLVI.
“I’ve never been through that,” the defensive tackle said this afternoon. “I can tell you this much: We're not going to [Indy to] win the Super Bowl. We're going to beat the New England Patriots. So that’s our focus”
Perhaps, but the Giants have their share of young players who have never been in the situation they currently find themselves in. It could be a cause for concern, given many might not completely comprehend the ramifications.
Canty won’t buy into that theory, though.
“I think we have enough veteran leadership where we can kind of rein some of that in,” Canty said, “and we can kind of make sure guys are focused on the task at hand. I think everybody knows the opportunity that’s in front of us, and we want to take full advantage of it. We don’t want to have any regrets after Super Bowl Sunday.”
Canty also isn’t convinced playing against Tom Brady and the Patriots in Week 9 gives the Giants' defense any sort of advantage. That's because Canty knows Bill Belichick & Co. will have some new wrinkles.
“It helps to have some familiarity with the team, but obviously they are doing quite a few things different now,” he said. “So we have to put them back under the microscope, see where they are having their success and try to do our best to limit that and put ourselves in the best circumstances to be successful.”
