Giants coach Tom Coughlin said on Thursday that he was hoping starting cornerback Corey Webster, who has a rib injury, would be back on the practice field Friday. Webster was dressed, but he was casually riding the bike during stretching, and when the secondary went through its drills in the portion of practice open to the media, Webster was not taking part.

Could be a precaution to get him fully up to speed for Sunday's game in Washington, but it also could signal the injury isn't responding as well as hoped. If Webster is limited, look for the role of Aaron Ross to expand, and that could bring Michael Coe into the picture as an extra DB.

Of the other players not specifically ruled out of the Redskins game, only center Shaun O'Hara (foot/Achilles) was not practicing when the media could watch. As beat writer Tom Rock suggested Thursday, it seems probable Rich Seubert will shift back to center with David Diehl at left guard and Shawn Andrews at left tackle.

Defensive linemen Osi Umenyiora (knee), Justin Tuck (chest) and Chris Canty (neck), who were limited on Thursday all were on the field as usual on Friday. So was safety Antrel Rolle (ankle).
