Chad Jones’ dream of playing in the NFL seemed like it was a million miles away when he was involved in a horrific car crash last June. After tonight, he’s about 40 yards closer to it.
The safety who was taken by the Giants in the third round of the 2010 draft but never played for them due to injuries sustained in the accident celebrated his 23rd birthday by running a 40-yard dash for the first time the wreck. He was timed at 4.84 seconds according to the Associated Press.
“That’s a good time for my first time. Things went pretty good today,” Jones said (via the AP). “This was just to kind to show the public there’s progress. It’s definitely not my fastest time. I’ve got five more months of rehab.”
Jones only began running three months ago. “That shows you how fast things are progressing,” he said. He visited the Giants during training camp in August and spoke to the team after a practice. He expressed his desire to return to training camp next year at that time, and tonight’s run certainly was a big step towards that.
“In the 2012 season, Chad Jones is going to be back with the New York Giants,” Jones said tonight. “I kind of see that happening.”
