For casual Giants fans, this will be the first time you’ll be hearing the name of Charles Scott. He was a running back out of LSU who was on the team’s practice squad for most of the 2010 season and who was signed to a reserve/futures contract at the end of the campaign.
Earlier this week Scott was involved in a car accident that was apparently serious enough at one point to have him in an ICU, but he has since been described as not having suffered any life- or even career-threatening injuries by his agent.
Scott was even able to do some Tweeting.
“I just want to thank all my friends, fans & family for the many needed prayers and support. I'm doing well and will be home soon. Love y'all,” he wrote.
Scott was reportedly the passenger in the serious accident which took place on Wednesday night.
The Giants haven’t had much luck with moving vehicles over the past year. Last summer third-round draft pick Chad Jones (also an LSU product) was involved in a car accident that very nearly cost him his leg and certainly cast serious doubt on whether he would ever be able to play football again. And last Memorial Day weekend Mathias Kiwanuka’s brother wrecked his motorcycle while the two were riding in Indianapolis.
Because of the lockout, the Giants are unable to comment on Scott’s status but they are aware of the situation.
