Okay, I can squeeze in one more blog post before practice. It’s about Barry Cofield.

I spoke with him last year in the preseason and we were just shooting the breeze about television and what we both enjoy watching. He mentioned that he is a big fan of “Hard Knocks,” which stuck in my memory. So today I asked the Giants’ defensive tackle if he’s looking forward to tomorrow night’s first episode of the HBO show which stars the Jets (in case you’ve been on some distant planet since January, you already know this).

“Oh yeah, I’m going to watch it,” he said excitedly.

Will he get to watch it at 10?

“It depends on the schedule,” he said. “With the advent of on-demand television, you can catch every episode.”

“It’s very interesting,” he said of the show in general. “Even going through it, its still very interesting to see it from an outside perspective. The Jets, they have an interesting cast of characters over there starting with their head man, the ringleader. So I think it will be very entertaining.”

Cofield said people are making too big of a deal about Rex Ryan’s boasts and ego.

“People make a big deal that he said they expect to win the Super Bowl,” Cofield said. “Well, you should expect to win the Super Bowl. You don’t have to say it out loud, but you should expect that.

“I think it would be cool to have a coach like that who is so confident in his players,” he added (which I found to be an interesting comment considering his tenuous future here with the Giants). “I’m sure that’s all it is, I’m sure that’s how the players take it, so it’s definitely interesting. They have a lot of quality players over there so it will be interesting to see how their season goes.”

And it will make fascinating television.
