Travis Beckum showed up on Sunday with a zig-zagging 67-yard touchdown catch. It was just his second reception of the season and the only time he was targeted in the game.
So, is there more where that came from?
“Obviously when you play like that and make a play of that nature, you do certainly encourage people to expand your role,” Tom Coughin said.
The Giants have been struggling for close to three years to figure out how to use Beckum. Perhaps now, they are finally getting to the point where he can become another weapon.
“That was an outstanding football play in which he not only made the big catch, but he made an outstanding run afterwards, showed his athleticism,” Coughlin said.
He also touted Beckum’s contributions in other roles.
“(He) did an outstanding job on special teams as well,” Coughlin said. “Was very physical, had some really physical plays on special teams.”
From the coach who once derisively noted of the oft-injured player that “Beckum is Beckum,” maybe the definition is starting to change a bit.
