Coughlin says Cruz is still "knocking some rust off"

Victor Cruz may be making some nice plays so far in training camp, but Tom Coughlin says we shouldn’t be fooled by them.

“I don’t know what you’re seeing,” he said when asked about Cruz looking sharp after missing the entire offseason program. “He’s knocking some rust off, he definitely is. He’s made some really nice plays and he’s coming along and he’s definitely going to get there, but I wouldn’t tell you he’s (sharp).”

It’s the second day in a row that Coughlin rattled the cage of a star wide receiver. Yesterday he suggested that Hakeem Nicks needed to hurry up and get back on the field. Today Nicks was there and participating a little more than he had been with his groin tightness, but he was still limited.

Not so for Cruz, however, and if there is one part of Cruz’s game that Coughlin won’t quibble over it’s his ability to practice every day.

“He’s working, that’s the key,” Coughlin said of Cruz. “He’s out there. And we know that that’s the formula for him. He’ll work his way through camp and he’ll be ready to go.”

Check out the practice report in a little while for more info on how Cruz and Nicks looked on the field today in the first padded practice of the summer.
