Tom Coughlin is not expecting his Aug. 4 guys to be able to practice on Aug. 4.

"Let’s get them all out there so we can develop some balance so we can integrate the contract guys with everyone else and try to get on the same page," Coughlin said when assessing Wednesday night's practice. "That’s basically what I feel."

Coughlin said as far as he knows, the free agents and those who signed new deals will not be able to practice with the team tomorrow, as had been hoped, because of the lack of an approved CBA. The soft deadline for that to be ratified was tomorrow -- which is why we kept calling the free agents who are allowed to watch practice but not participate in it "Aug. 4 guys" -- but it appears uncertain that will happen.

Coughlin is holding out hope, especially since the Giants don't practice until 6 p.m.

"I think that if they can get it done during the day, with the way we practice late in the day, we can still pull it off," he said.

The Giants affected by this are: Steve Weatherford, Brandon Jacobs, Ahmad Bradshaw, Chris White, David Baas, Stacy Andrews, Kevin Boothe, Jamon Meredith, Michael Clayton, Ben Patrick, Bear Pascoe, Gabe Watson and Mathias Kiwanuka.
