Crennel's future with Giants could be determined by how dry the Chicken Kiev was

I mentioned last night on Twitter that Tom Coughlin and Romeo Crennel, who coached together for just three years with the Giants, and on different sides of the ball, have remained close. So close, in fact, that when Crennel's daughter got married a few summers ago, Tom Coughlin attended the wedding.

How do I know that? Somebody who was seated at his table for the event told me.

That somebody was Eric Mangini.

Way back when, when I was covering the Jets and they played the Giants, we asked Mangini in a press conference about his relationship with Coughlin. He said that they had never really met until that summer when they were seated next to each other at the above-mentioned event.

Must have been quite the yuck-fest of a table, huh?

(Actually, if I recall, Mangini said he and Coughlin got along well and Mangini was pleased and surprised by Coughlin's sense of humor.)

Meanwhile, I dug out this quote from Tom Coughlin in regard to the star-crossed potential Giants defensive coordinator:

"Romeo Crennel is a rock solid man," said Coughlin. "He's an excellent football coach and an even better person. He's an extremely stable, solid person. He's got both feet on the ground and his values in place. He's a very, very good football coach and an excellent person."
