There are usually one or two players who we like to keep an eye on in pregame warm-ups to try to figure out if they will play. Last week it was Justin Tuck and Mario Manningham. This week it was … um …
No one really. The Giants pretty much went chalk on their inactives. The list includes Prince Amukamara (foot), Osi Umenyiora (knee) and Mario Manningham (concussion) who were already ruled out for the game, plus Da’Rel Scott. Mitch Petrus, James Brewer and Friday roster addition Michael Clayton.
The more interesting aspects to watch will be those who are playing for the first time and where they are doing so. With Manningham out and Domenik Hixon not playing, second-year man Victor Cruz gets his first NFL start. Jerrel Jernigan gets his first NFL action today to help out the beleaguered receivers.
And the Giants will also have Travis Beckum at their disposal for the first time this season. One of the main weapons the Falcons used against the Eagles last week was their tight end. Now no one is comparing Beckum to Tony Gonzalez, but he’ll at least add another dimension to the Giants’ offense.
As for the Eagles, their inactives are Jaiquawn Jarret, Curtis Marsh, Darryl Tapp, Danny Watkins, Julian Vandervelde, Winston Justice and Juqua Parker. The Eagles also formally changed their linebacker look: Jamar Chaney will start in the middle, Casey Matthews moves to the weakside, and Moise Pokou goes to the strongside.
