Eli: Division is 'wide open' and Giants can still get hot

Don’t tell Eli Manning the season is over. As far as he’s concerned, the 0-5 Giants are in the thick of things.

“Yeah because (the division is) wide open and obviously we’re two games back right now,” he said. “Obviously we’ve got to play better football and do those things, but we still feel that we can get hot.”

The Giants are running out of time, but there are 11 games left with four of them in the division. If they can somehow figure out a way to straighten this season out, it’s not beyond impossible that they could wind up in contention for the NFC East crown at some point. Consider that last year’s division champs, Washington, was 3-6 at Week 10, 3.5 games behind the first-place Giants. And that was in November. So there is still plenty of time left for the Giants. Or, come to think of it, for Washington.

“You never know,” Manning said of how things work out. “You never know in this situation, but this is the situation we’re in. We’ve got to play through it and just do whatever it takes.”
