Rookie left tackle Ereck Flowers sat out a second straight practice with a sore hip flexor but said he expects to be back in time to participate in next Friday's preseason opener in Cincinnati.
"I should be fine by then," he said prior to Wednesday's workout.
Flowers said it would be disappointing to miss what would be his NFL debut against the Bengals. For now, he'll have to just be disappointed in missing his first NFL fully-padded practice. The Giants were working at full contact on Wednesday and Flowers, who was drafted to provide a big, physical presence on the line, was not available.
"I hate missing practice," he said.
Flowers said he injured the hip flexor on Sunday and tried to push through it. On Monday he reported the soreness and sat out. The team did not practice on Tuesday.
"I've never been hurt but one time and I came back in a week and a half," he said of a knee injury at the University of Miami that required a surgical procedure but cost him only one missed game. "I usually heal pretty fast and do pretty well, so I expect to be out there once this heals up."
