Kevin Boss signed in Oakland and Ben Patrick retired (for the time being, anyway). It has left the Giants a bit short-handed at tight end. Not to worry, though. Today the team announced that it has signed Daniel Coats, a free agent veteran who has not caught an NFL pass since the 2009 season.
Coats, who is 6-3 and 264, did start 11 games for the Bengals in 2009. Last year he was with the Bengals and the Broncos and appeared in 10 games but did not make a catch. In his career he has 30 receptions for 291 yards but no touchdowns.
“I’m sure if I was playing tight end I would think this gives me an opportunity to have more snaps,” Tom Coughlin said of losing Boss and Patrick.
