We mentioned Travis Beckum in yesterday’s post about receivers, but we’ll mention him here again as we talk about:
There seems to be little doubt about what Kevin Boss can bring to the team. He’s a solid starter, a tough receiver and a sure-handed target for Eli Manning when he’s in trouble. But in the last year the Giants have parted ways with two other tight ends – Mike Matthews and Darcy Johnson – leaving them with Beckum (who is some sort of hybrid that the team has yet to figure out how to use) and guys like Bear Pascoe and Scott Chandler. If they plan on using Will Beatty on the offensive line this year – and it seems like he’ll be given a chance to win a job – then they’ll need to have a blocking tight end. Not that Boss can’t block, but it’d be nice to have a guy who does it for a living.
Some names to look at:
Clay Harbor (Missouri State), Nate Byham (Pittsburgh), Michael Hoomanawanui (Illinois).
