Fred Robbins and David Carr didn’t help the 2010 Giants – they didn’t even play for that team – but they’ll be able to give at least a little help to the 2011 season. Largely because those two veterans walked away from the Giants following the 2009 season, the Giants were awarded two sixth-round compensatory picks in this April’s draft.
The Giants are one of eight teams to receive multiple compensatory picks. They get the 198th and 202nd overall picks. Carolina got the most picks, three, including a third-rounder.
So basically the Giants get to announce the names of two more players at the draft than they thought they would … and then, if the lockout is still in place, ignore those two guys along with their entire draft class until a CBA is reached.
