Giants healthier by half off the bye

The Giants have released their pre-practice injury report, and it has only five names. That's a far cry from the 10 players who were on the injury report the last time we saw it, the Saturday before the Cowboys game.

Of course, some of the guys who would have been on the list have been put on another list -- injured reserve -- since then. Mathias Kiwanuka and Bruce Johnson.

The big names that were causing at least a little bit of worry two weeks ago are not on the list. That would be Justin Tuck (ankle) and Hakeem Nicks (hamstring), both of whom appear to have healed during the bye. Keith Bulluck is no longer on the list. Neither are Lawrence Tynes, D.J. Ware or Brian Jackson.

So who is on the list? No one who would surprise you.

Will Beatty (foot), Madison Hedgecock (hamstring), Shaun O'Hara (foot), Osi Umenyiora (knee) and Gerris Wilkinson (hand).

Of those, Beatty is making progress coming off foot surgery for a broken bone, Umenyiora normally rests on Wednesdays, and Wilkinson should be able to play with a cast on his broken left hand. O'Hara may not officially be out, but he basically said he will be. That leaves the only guy who we really need to find out about as Hedgecock. On Monday, Tom Coughlin said the fullback did a little bit of work, including some testing of the hammy.

Oh, and Will Blackmon, whose knee injury cost him most of the 2009 season and had him placed in IR and waived/injured by the Packers this summer, is not on the list.
