Giants leave the frozen tundra of NY behind to play in Green Bay

Who would have thought that I’d be in Green Bay in late January worried about a blizzard … back in New York!

Yes, it’s about as nice a day as you can get for this time of the year here at Lambeau Field. It’s sunny, not too cold, and the winds are very light. Which is good because it sounds like the Giants will be spending a little extra time in the area. When the airports back home close up later today, the team is planning to spend the night in Appleton, Wisc. That will undoubtedly be a whole lot more tolerable if the Giants win.

Hope Mitch Petrus has a few new songs up his sleeve to entertain the team tonight.

As for the game, the Giants have a few surprises on their active/inactive list. Most of those are healthy scratches. The two guys we knew wouldn’t play are Will Blackmon and Dave Tollefson. The other inactives are Darius Reynaud, Jake Ballard, Mitch Petrus, Will Beatty, Jamon Meredith and Duke Calhoun.

The two names that stick out are Reynaud and Beatty. Not having Reynaud active means that Aaron Ross will most likely be the main punt returner for the Giants today.

And not having Beatty active is a surprise because with he, Meredith and Petrus out, there is a depth issue on the offensive line. Shawn Andrews will be the sixth guy for extra tight end formations, and the Giants will have Kevin Boothe to fill in. But that’s it.

Alex Hall, by the way, dresses for the first time in his career.
