And so it begins. Or, at least, we know when it will begin.

The first nail of the Giants' 2015 schedule has been hammered into place as the Bengals announced the date and time that they will host the Giants in the preseason opener. It'll be 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 14. That, for those of you who can hardly contain your excitement, is about 119 days and three hours from the time I am writing this.

More importantly, it sets the entire preseason calendar in place. The start of training camp is anchored to the first preseason game, so the Giants will probably open camp on July 31. That hasn't been officially officialized yet, but that's when it'll happen.

No other games on the Giants' 2015 schedule have been announced. An NFL spokesman tweeted Friday that the regular-season schedule is nearly complete and is expected to be announced next week (I'd guess Tuesday). That created a stir since everyone loves to find out the schedule. The dates and times of the three other Giants preseason games have not been determined, but it's a good bet that the preseason finale against the Patriots will be played on Thursday, Sept. 3, up in Foxborough.

In more pressing scheduling matters, the Giants begin their offseason workout program on Monday. For that one you are allowed to count down the hours and not be considered as much of a lunatic.
