Sterling Shepard blew up on the Giants’ sideline between the third and fourth quarters of Sunday’s 33-31 loss at Carolina, taking a few swings at the metal bench and then upending a garbage can. But don’t expect that kind of behavior in the future from the third-year wide receiver.

“It can’t happen,” Shepard said Tuesday in the Giants’ locker room. “You find different ways to relieve the stress or whatever it is. There’s different outlets than acting out like that. I didn’t even want to watch it.”

Shepard said he wasn’t surprised that cameras caught him lashing out. As he was tussling with the bench and hurling the garbage can, Odell Beckham Jr., who has engaged in his share of sideline rage, tried to hold him back. Shepard said frustration made him lose his cool.

“The camera gets you and it’s never a good look,” Shepard said. “That’s not me. I’ve never been the type to act out like that.”

Notes & quotes: The Giants officially waived T Ereck Flowers on Tuesday and signed T Brian Mihalik from their practice squad. Pat Shurmur said Mihalik will be the backup tackle for Thursday night’s game against the Eagles  … The Giants also signed K Marshall Koehn to their practice squad just in case Aldrick Rosas (quad) is unable to play. Rosas did not practice Tuesday. Koehn was with the Giants in training camp this summer and played one game with the Bengals last season … LB Olivier Vernon (ankle) was limited in practice. “Make no mistake, OV is trying to get back,” Shurmur said. Vernon hasn’t played this season after suffering a high ankle sprain Aug. 26.
